About The Artist: Nicole Dane

Nicole Dane

Nicole is an American-Filipino fiber artist, handweaver, and Etsy shop owner. She was a textile designer for 4 years after college and is now pursuing art and business full time. She has a wide variety of work that range from wall art to handwoven women’s accessories and silver jewelry. She likes to use materials like VHS tape, piña fiber, cotton, silk, and abaca.

She also upcycles materials to use as components in her work. She collects antique wood frames, all types of fabric scraps, zippers, and vinyl. When she was in textile design, there was so much material generated through the R&D process that she started to save the best bits that were destined for the trash or collected for inspiration and also destined for the trash. She pays a lot of attention to where the materials come from and her collection is a hoard of small and beautiful rejects and scraps.

In contrast to her rescued materials, she has her coveted raw fibers from the Philippines that were painstakingly sought out and gathered by herself, her mother, and her wonderful friends. She mixes things that are from here and there. Her halo-halo art is a quiet expression of the emotions she keeps. She collages them in the physical world to make room inside her soul. It’s a record of her personal growth, as she explores the material world around her.
